Agen tourist information

where to go - what to see - what to do

Agen's origins can be traced back to Neolithic and Gallo-Roman times.  However, it wasn't until the Middle Ages that Agen began to prosper basking in its association with Eleanor of Aquitaine.  It was Eleanor's son, Richard the Lionheart, who changed the fate of Agen by offering it as a dowry to the Count of Toulouse on his sister's marriage.

Today, Agen is a welcoming, attractive town which thrives on its prune production - orchards that surround the town can be visited.  Agen is also known for its excellent rugby team that has won the French championship eight times.

Tours around Agen include the rolling countryside and Brulhois Vineyards to the south of the Garonne Valley, fortified towns such as Moirax and Renaissance castles that lie between the Armagnac Vineyards and the rivers Baise and Gelise.
