Orne tourist informationwhere to go - what to see - what to do
The Orne occupies part of inland Normandy - known for its meadows, orchards, forests of oak and beech trees, rivers, half-timbered houses, and traditional farmhouses.
Gastronomy is another good reason to come here with creams, apple & pear brandy, cider and soft cheeses such as Camembert being produced here.
The area is popular for walking, riding, climbing, canoeing and other river sports - particularly in the Parc Regional du Normandie-Maine.
On the edge of the nature reserve lies Alencon which has always been a prosperous town since its lace-making and tax collecting days of the 17th century.
- Parc Regional de Normandie-Maine - head to the Maison du Parc at Carrouges for information on walks, riding, climbing and canoeing in France's largest national park.
- Cheese Tasting - La maison du Camembert is a must if only to soak up some of the Calvados sampled en route here!
- Equestrian Centre at Haras du Pin - named 'a horse's Versailles' for its grandeur, the Haras du Pin is well known for its horse shows and dressage events.
- Lake-side Spa - visit the thermal spa of Bagnoles-de-L'Orne with its lake, gardens & casinos for treatments and therapy.
