Alencon tourist informationwhere to go - what to see - what to do
Alencon lies to the south of Normandy and borders the Normandie-Maine nature reserve. It used to be a centre for lace-making and tax collecting - much of its former wealth seen in the elegant Grande Rue with houses proudly sporting wrought-iron balconies dating back to the 18th-century.
There are some interesting sights in and around Alencon including the Chateau des Ducs, used as a prison by Nazi troops in WWII or the majestic Chateau de Carrouges. You'll also want to head out towards the Ecouves Forests or Saint Ceneri-le-Gerei - often cited as one of the prettiest villages in France.
