Coutances tourist information

where to go - what to see - what to do

Coutances makes a worthy stopover en route to Mont-St-Michel.  Once the capital of the Cotentin peninsula, Coutances boasts a superb Norman Gothic cathedral (Cathedrale Notre Dame) and beautiful public gardens.  Both of these attractions can be enjoyed at night with sons et lumieres taking place in the cathedral on Sundays and the gardens illuminated for evening strolls.

Coutances is not just a town of art and history!  Gastronomically you'll be spoiled here too.  There is much to choose from including beverages such as Calvados & Cider and the top quality Foie-Gras produced locally.  'La Teurgoule' is another local tradition which, if you like rice pudding, is sure to get the tastebuds going.
