Dinan tourist information

where to go - what to see - what to do

Dinan is perhaps one of the prettiest medieval walled cities in France.  The Vieille Ville is like an open-air museum with convents, churches, half-timbered houses, intact city walls and cobbled streets that overlook the river Rance.  To enjoy views over Dinan's medieval heart, climb to the top of Tour d'Horloge in rue d'Horloge.

The Basilique St-Saveur is one of Dinan's gems and displays a melange of architecture including a Romanesque porch and 18th-century vaulting.  Inside you'll find a cenotaph that contains the heart of Bertrand du Guesclin who defeated the English Knight, Thomas of Canterbury in the 14th-century.  Later, du Guesclin went onto to lead the French army and reminders of Dinan's hero are spotted all over the town.

Dinan is a pleasant place to enjoy the delights of Brittany with artisan shops nestling alongside creperies and traditional Breton restaurants.  If you are in Dinan during the Fete des Remparts in late September you'll be rewarded by a lively medieval festival in the old town.
