Amboise tourist information

where to go - what to see - what to do

The chateau d'Amboise is good enough reason to visit the picturesque town of Amboise.  Few sites can claim to be of such historical importance - Louis XI lived here, Charles VIII was born and died here and Francois I held lavish parties here!  However, Amboise also has links with someone imminently more famous than all the kings put together - Leonardo da Vinci.  Clos Luce is where Leonardo stayed and where models of his inventions can be seen and the Gothic Chapelle St-Hubert is where he was buried.

If you are in Amboise on a Friday or Sunday don't forget the market which takes place behind Max Ernst's fascinating turtle fountain creation down by the riverside.  A riverside walk is also highly recommended and affords great views of the chateau.

Amboise is the ideal base for discovering the some of the most popular chateaux that lie to the east of Tours including Chenonceau, Blois and Chambord.
