Bourges tourist information

where to go - what to see - what to do

Bourges is known for its Cathedrale St-Etienne (the widest Gothic cathedral in France).  It is said to replicate Notre-Dame in Paris with its stunning stained glass window and astronomical clock.

Bourges is also the birthplace of Jacques Coeur who seemingly has a street named after him in almost every town in France.  He was finance minister to Charles VII and made his fortune as an arms dealer, market trader and shipping magnate.  His family motto 'A vaillan coeur, rien possible' or 'to a valiant heart, nothing is impossible' sits above the Palais Jacques Coeur, heralded as a Gothic masterpiece.

Today, Bourges is a thriving student town with lots happening culturally.  You'll find numerous art exhibitions, concerts and good restaurants in its network of cobbled streets with the spring festival of music becoming increasingly popular.
