If feudal architecture is your style, you've come to the right place.  The Chateau d'Angers is the best preserved military fortress in the Loire valley with its imposing 17 towers made out of dark schist.

In the 14th and 15th centuries the chateau was home to the dukes of Anjou who favoured the ever popular Italian Renaissance style.

However, perhaps the chateau's crowning glory is the 104m long medieval tapestry 'L'Apocalypse' - the oldest tapestry in the world of its size made for Louis I of Anjou in 1755.  The tapestry sets out scenes from the Bible according to St John.
