Eure tourist informationwhere to go - what to see - what to do
Follow the Seine southeast from Honfleur to the department of Eure with great cycling roads lined with timbered farmhouses.
Here you'll find the Foret de Lyons which used to be the hunting ground for the Dukes of Normandy. The Seine winds it way south from here to the small town of Andelys - dominated by Chateau Gaillard built by Richard the Lionheart in 1197 to defend Rouen from the French.
In fact, medieval France is never far away - from the houses at Pont-Audeme, which lean out at angles, to the towns and villages of Vernon, Bernay, Cormeilles & Louviers.
Pastoral tranquillity is here with open forestland and riverside village, such as La Ferriere-sur-Risle, ideal for enjoying the countryside.
- A day out in Giverny - Fondation Claude Monet. Take a stroll around Monet's famous gardens complete with water lilies!
- Evreux - the Cathedral Notre Dale has a stunning 14th to 15th stained-glass window and fuses Gothic, Renaissance & Romanesque architecture.
- Le Chateau d'Harcourt - home to one of France's finest arboretums with over 400 species of trees from every continent.
- Religious Heritage At The Abbaye de Bec-Hellouin - a place of tranquillity and prayer, favoured as a retreat by the late Archbishop of Canterbury.
