Saint-Denis tourist information

where to go - what to see - what to do

St-Denis

St-Denis has always been synonymous with Royal burials.  Almost all the French Kings were entombed here and all the queens crowned in the elegant Basilique St-Denis.  The basilica itself revolutionised Western architecture and was the first Gothic structure of its kind serving as a model for other French cathedrals, most notably the one at Chartres.

Today, St-Denis is a leafy suburb that basks in the glory of its other claim to fame, the Stade de France where France rose to victory against Brazil in the 1998 World Cup.  The stadium is a futuristic structure and most pleasing to the eye.  It is now used for major sporting events and concerts.
