Ales tourist information

where to go - what to see - what to do

Ales is the second largest town in the Gard department and nestles alongside the Gard river providing numerous opportunities for canoeing, kayaking and fishing.  Ales was once an important centre for coal mining when monks cut into the hillside establishing a long tradition which only came to an end in 1986.

Today Ales is a delightful town with some great attractions nearby and more importantly it acts as the gateway to the Parc National des Cevennes.  A nature lovers dream the park is rich with over 2250 plant species, ecomuseums and animals including red deer, beavers and vultures.  Activities to tempt you include some great walking, cross country skiing, cycling, climbing, caving and the list goes on................
