Beziers tourist information

where to go - what to see - what to do

Beziers has an interesting if not troublesome past and was almost completely destroyed in the wars against the Cathars when approx. 20,000 heretics were slaughtered in a church in the centre of town.  The church has a hollow somehow soulless feel to it even today.  However, there are other sights of interest, for example Cathedrale St-Nazaire with its fine wooden sculptured portals & frescoes.  Best views of this splendid medieval cathedral can be seen from Pont Vieux in the southwest.

Beziers is known for its formidable rugby team, bullfighting and fine wine.  The Festa d'Oc is a celebration of local music & dance and is held in late July whereas the feria or bullfighting festival is held in early August.  To enjoy a little wine tasting head to Terroirs et Cepage on avenue President Wilson to indulge your palate.
