where to go - what to see - what to doNancy shouts Art Nouveau elegance, refinement and style! This is largely due to the Dukes of Lorraine who transformed the city into a model of urban planning in the 18th century. Place Stanislas is probably a good place to start. It is a perfectly proportioned square complete with fountains, statues of Neptune and Amphitrite and ornate wrought-iron gates. A sense of peace and contentment sweeps upon you as you sit at one of the chic restaurants that line the square.
Nancy's prosperity was further confirmed at the turn of the century with the prominence of the glassmaker Emile Galle - the father of the Art Nouveau movement in France. All over Nancy you'll spot elaborate grillwork and stained-glass that harks back to the Art Nouveau movement.
Whilst in Nancy you'll also want to sample the delights of Bergamotes de Nancy - a boiled sweet made with the same bergamot used to flavour Earl Grey tea.
