Beauvais tourist information

where to go - what to see - what to do

Beauvais is noted for its outstanding Cathedrale St-Pierre which was actually never finished.  In 1284 the high vaults collapsed only to be followed by the spire (the tallest ever built) in 1573.  Today people travel far and wide to glimpse its superb stained-glass and 90,000-part astronomical clock built in the 1860s.

Apart from the cathedral there are a couple of other noteworthy museums in Beauvais including the Galerie Nationale de la Tapisserie with its superb collection of tapestries (an old trade in Beauvais) and the Musee Departemental de L'Oise with a rich ensemble of wood carvings, ceramics and Art Nouveau, French & Italian paintings.
