Chasseneuil-du-Poitou tourist informationwhere to go - what to see - what to do
Chasseneuil-du-Poitou has one major tourist attraction that has pulled in over 30 million visitors since its completion in 1987 and it's called Futuroscope (the second largest theme park in France).
Futuroscope is a feast for the eyes with emphasis on sleek, metallic, glass design. Futuroscope boasts 21 pavillions each with its own cinematic display. The 'tapis magic' or magic carpet is a mass of anthracite tubing that throws out images that make you feel like you are moving. The 'cinema dynamique', on the other hand, is a hell-raising, virtual reality roller coaster ride.
These are just two of Futuroscope's 21 science, technology and cybernetics pavillions, so a whole day is a must here.
Futuristic fun over and you'll want to head into Chasseneuil-du-Poitou itself.
Chasseneuil-du-Poitou has a historic centre with a Roman bridge, 19th-century wheat mill and a 12th-century church and chapel that came under fire during the Wars of Religion (now restored). 'La Maison d'Autrefois' is an interesting insight into local traditions of the area and includes an old forge, carpenter's workshop and a collection of traditional costumes.
If you have the time, Chasseneuil-du-Poitou is also a great base to explore the great outdoors. Fishing, canoeing and cycling are just some of the pursuits to be enjoyed on the banks of Chasseneuil-du-Poitou's Clain and Auxances rivers.
