Poitiers tourist information

where to go - what to see - what to do

Poitiers has been witness to three of France's most important battles.  The most famous battle was led by Charles Martel in 732 and halted the Arab invasion of France.

Today Poitiers is a dynamic town with a rich architectural heritage which stems from its association with the Dukes of Aquitaine.  Notre Dame-la-Grande is worth a visit for its 12th century Poitevin sculpture and colourful geometrical patterns.

If you want to observe Poitevin life head to the tree-lined Place Leclerc and Place de Gaulle which is the central hub of cafes, restaurants, elegant streets and half-timbered medieval houses.
