Saintes tourist information

where to go - what to see - what to do

Saintes is situated on the river Charente and was an important economic and cultural hub in Roman times.  The town's Roman remains are worth investigating including a vast amphitheatre built for gladiator combats and two stunning pilgrim churches.

Saintes is a popular destination for visitors who come to enjoy its rich cultural heritage including an attractive centre with narrow streets and medieval houses.  The colourful market which sets up twice a week alongside the cathedral is also a must.
