Gordes tourist information

where to go - what to see - what to do

Gordes is a delightful 'village perché' that was a fierce Resistance stronghold during the WWII.  This resulted in the massacre of much of its population and the destruction of the village which has been carefully restored to former glory.  After the war, Gordes was rewarded the Croix de Guerre for its exploits.

Today, Gordes is one of the most popular perched villages in Provence and not without good reason.  It has a imposing chateau that presides over medieval arcaded alleyways where concerts museums and art exhibitions take place.

South of Gordes lies the Village des Bories, a Neolithic settlement of beehive-shaped huts which were believed to have been a refuge for the villagers during the plague.
