Menton tourist information

where to go - what to see - what to do

Menton is simply delightful escaping much of the frenzy of the Cote d'Azur in favour of tranquil squares that bask in warm sunshine.  Apparently, Menton is the warmest spot along the south coast which is probably why it became a hotspot for Queen Victoria, artists and writers in the 19th-century.

Menton is known for its cultivation of lemons that remain in blossom all year despite the backdrop of snowcapped Alps.  In February at the beginning of Mardi Gras the town is given over to the colourful Fete des Citrons with street performers, sculptures and concerts.

There is plenty to see and do in Menton including the Musee Cocteau which houses works by the famous artist cum poet who resided in Menton from 1956 to 1958.  The Basilica St-Michel is also of noteworthy praise and a fine example of Baroque architecture.
