Grenoble tourist information

where to go - what to see - what to do

Grenoble is the cultural and economic capital of the French Alps and has established a reputation for being a centre of high-tech progress and commerce.  A lot of its affluence is generated by a booming microelectronics and nuclear industry.

However, this does not diminish its worth as a tourist destination.  Grenoble is a lively, modern city that is attractively situated at the confluence of the river Drac and Isere.  It is a delight to be in amongst such modernity and be able to look up at any one time and see snow-capped mountains.  If this appeals then take a cable car at quai Stephane-Jay which transports you to Fort de la Bastille for fantastic views of the Alps.

The central pulse in Grenoble is situated around Place Grenette with its tempting cafés.  From here head to Place St-Andre and the medieval centre with its 13th century buildings such as Collegiale St-Andre.  There is much to see and do here!
